Hi, Mars!
We live in a society where the social collective perception becomes the truth. This so-called ‘truth’, whether stands on the real basis or not, dictates who and what you are, and who and what you should be.
While the world is still on its way on building a more inclusive space for everybody — most especially for the LGBT community, norms are unconsciously set and expected to see from its members. Gays are expected to wear make up, a lesbian to look like a man, a transgender to look like a real woman or man, and so.
And it is in this argument that our group took interest to break the social stigma attached to people who belong to the LGBTQ+ community by telling their stories through photographs depicting their everyday lives that are no different with other ordinary people. Often, people who are part of this community receive invalidation and criticisms by the majority whole who has the grasp of gender norms that blind the identity and expression of those in the LGBTQ+ community.
Today, we must refuse to create a dusty and dull community and we shall open our eyes and let the colors that are bursting from these photographs shed the light of understanding we all need. This is KuLaya.
